Suzanne Mumford
My dementia journey started in a small geriatric hospital near Ferndown in Dorset, I started as a nursing auxiliary at 17 while doing my A Levels and had the fortune to be introduced to dementia care by a nursing sister who reinforced dignity, compassion and the highest standards of care fom my first day. Her words were "imagine what it feels like to have someone else in control of your life, doing things to you - if it doesn't feel right in your heart; don't do it! Work with the person you are caring for to find the best way for them."
I did my general nurse training in Southampton, and specialised in neurology and neurosurgery. I have worked in hospitals and care homes. I ran my own home care agency for nearly 10 years. My passion for helping inspire people to learn and apply their knowledge led me into teaching and I started an independent training company supporting training and NVQ's to the care sector for a further 10 years.
I work as the Dementia Specialist for Hallmark Care Homes.
